New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners

Appointed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey

Admitted Attorneys

REINSTATEMENT

My license has been administratively revoked. How can I get my license reinstated?

Administratively revoked attorneys must either Petition the Court for reinstatement or must reapply to the bar for admission via examination or admission on Motion.

For guidance about the option to petition, please review the May 30, 2008, Notice to the Bar which can be found here. Please note the following guidance to be read in conjunction with this notice.

The current filing fee for a petition for reinstatement is $50.00, payable to the Treasurer, State of New Jersey along with a check in the amount of $375.00, payable to the New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners, for administrative costs. An additional check in the amount of $375.00, will be payable to the New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners, if the petition is ultimately granted.

A timely petition for reinstatement of an administratively revoked license shall be filed and served within sixty days of the publication of the Supreme Court's Order of revocation.

If not filed timely, the petition must be accompanied by a motion seeking leave of the Court to file as within time and should explain the reasons for the petitioner’s failure to timely file.

Information regarding the application for admission via examination or admission on Motion can be found at: New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners - Application Information (njbarexams.org).

I am administratively ineligible to practice law in New Jersey because I am not current with my obligations to the Lawyers Fund for Client Protection (Lawyer’s Fund), to the Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts Fund of the Bar of New Jersey (IOLTA), or for compliance with requirements of the Board on Continuing Legal Education (CLE). How do I become eligible to practice in New Jersey?

If you are administratively ineligible for failure to pay fees owed to the Lawyer's Fund for Client Protection, you must contact the Lawyer's Fund at 855-533-3862 or via email at: lfcp.mbx@njcourts.gov to obtain information on fees owed.

If you are administratively ineligible for failure to comply with mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements, you must contact the Board on Continuing Legal Education at 609-815-2930 or via email at: sctcle.mailbox@njcourts.gov.

If you are administratively ineligible for failure to maintain attorney trust account(s) as required by IOLTA, you must address your IOLTA compliance or any related questions to IOLTA at 732-247-8222 or via email: info@ioltanj.org.
